What Are Regular Files?
Pay close attention to the values annotated on each sheet provided – it's the same character repeated throughout, with the only difference being the process used to analyze the uploaded file.
For example, consider a regular character sheet uploaded to Bardo as a PDF:
Once a user uploads one or more files, Bardo analyzes each one as a regular file. Here is an example of the data extracted from the character sheet displayed above:
As you can see, Bardo does extract key attributes—such as Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma—but it doesn’t capture the actual modifier values. For a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG), these numbers alone aren’t enough to create a fully viable experience. Moreover, if this is the level of detail obtained from a simple four-page character sheet, imagine the challenges of analyzing an entire TTRPG rulebook!
This limitation occurs because, by default, Bardo AI isn’t trained to interpret images, charts, tables, graphs, and other complex visual elements. Does that mean it’s useless? Not at all. Bardo truly excels at retaining critical details during extended conversations and managing memory effectively. When combined with a robust data extraction process, we end up with a remarkably capable TTRPG system. And that’s where premium files come into play.
What Are Premium Files?
Upgrading a file from regular to premium (using scrolls) converts the entire file into a new format. Before conversion, the file undergoes an in-depth process that reads its text, images, charts, graphs, tables, and more. Once this process is complete, the file is transformed from its original format into Markdown (.md).

The difference in data collection is striking. Premium files capture not only basic details like name and XP but also skills, abilities with modifiers, and even icons, graphics, and tables.
